The Second Trip to the ER - C-4

Struggling to breathe and still no doctor and no admission to the hospital.

Second Trip to the ER - August 7

After the fluids, I felt better and had hopes it was almost over. School was starting in a week, and I wanted to be ready. I hadn’t missed a day of school in a long time. I had eighty-five sick days built up for a rainy day and no plan on using them any time soon.  Feeling better didn’t last long; two days later it hit me hard again, at a different level this time, still had diarrhea, fogginess, and the hot and cold shakes. Now, add muscle cramps, so bad I thought it was going to tear me apart, and it was becoming hard to breathe. Nightmares, oh, I still had those too. The nightmares were nondescript. They came from nowhere; they made no sense and were always on the eerie side. The kind of dreams that wake you up from the deepest sleep, where you shake your head and thank God it was a dream. Then do your best to forget it.

So, on the evening of the 7th, we headed back to the ER. When I got into the ER, the same nurse looked at me and said, “Oh you weren’t supposed to come back.”  I just did my best to smile.  Same story, no room to admit me; the nurse just kept apologizing.  So, this time they put me on oxygen and two bags of fluids. I found it concerning that I hadn’t seen a doctor yet, I guess they were all upstairs with the real patients.

The oxygen and fluids seemed to do the trick, and I was feeling loads better. So around 1 a.m., they sent me on my way. We waited in the parking lot for the oxygen guy to follow us.  We made it home shortly after 2a.m. and we were very thankful for the oxygen delivery guy who made a home delivery at that hour, plus he didn’t treat me like a lepper. So, feeling better and more optimistic, I went to bed.

Reflection On the Lady in Purple

I was asked if the Lady in Purple was a real person, or did I think she was my guardian angel. Good question. Here is my long answer.
